Over six months living and working in Ban Nam Khem, Thailand, Matt Holloway documented life in a village profoundly shaped by the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami. Nearly two decades after the disaster, the work focuses on everyday life, resilience, and the persistence of culture in the present day.
The project has been exhibited at Studio KIND in Barnstaple (2023), Banbury Museum (2024), and the Athens Black & White Photography Festival (2026, 4th edition). Shown across these contexts, the photographs offer a grounded account of a community rebuilding after immense loss, balancing the long shadow of the tsunami with the quiet strength of the people who continue to live there.
